AS Monaco’s Rybolovlev commits to long term with €55m infrastructure project

January 17 – AS Monaco’s Russian president Dmitry Rybolovlev has committed to the long term future of the club with a spend of €55 million on key infrastructure projects, the centerpiece of which will be Center for Sporting Excellence at La Turbie FC.

At a meeting of local officials, sports and business leaders at the club’s Louis II Stadium plans were also unveiled for the renovation of the stadium’s premium hospitality boxes, and the construction of a modern dormitory for the club’s Academy students in Cap d’Ail.

Rybolovlev has recently hit the headlines having been embroiled in a dispute over art fraud and which has now become a civil criminal case in France, though the charges are unclear as who are the actual victims.

Throughout the various rumours and media stories, Rybolovlev, who bought the club in 2011, has maintained his commitment to is unchanged. Having challenged PSG for the Ligue 1 title two seasons ago, the club’s drip in form has been dramatic with the loss of key players including Kylian Mbappe. Monaco are currently in 19th spot in the league.

The club’s new state-of-the-art multifunctional sports complex in many ways is an expression of confidence in the club’s future. It will be located on a plot of 5 ha while the Center’s main building will occupy over 7,500 m2 -facilities will include three football pitches, a fitness center, a medical center, a rehabilitation zone, a restaurant, and a conference hall with capacity for 80 people. It is expected to be open by the 2020-21 season.

Rybolovlev, said: “I am absolutely committed to making every effort to continue to take this Club forward over the long term.

“We have already invested €335 million in ASM, and the Club has started to make profits, which it is now able to reinvest in further development. Rumors about a potential change of ownership at the Club have been repeatedly denied. I believe that the projects presented today speak best about our long-term commitment to ASM.”
