April 18 – With just 50 days to go until the kick off the Women’s World Cup in France, new ticket sales records are being set with more than 720,000 tickets sold.
The opening match at Paris’ Parc de Princes, the two semi-finals and the final, which will played at the Stade de Lyon, are all sold out. FIFA said that seats for each of these games were sold within 48 hours of going on sale.
A number of group match tickets have also sold out including the Netherlands vs Cameroon in Valenciennes on June 15, Nigeria vs France in Rennes on June 17 and Sweden vs the USA in Le Havre on June 20 – have also sold out in record time.
France 2019 will be held in hosted in nine cities: Grenoble, Le Havre, Lyon, Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Reims, Rennes and Valenciennes.
LOC Director Erwan Le Prévost said: “Today is a symbolic date that takes us a step closer to the beginning of the competition, which kicks off on 7 June at the Parc des Princes in Paris. We are all eagerly looking forward to the start of this FIFA Women’s World Cup and ticket sales show that the French public and foreign fans feel the same way.”
The tournament will have more than 1 million tickets on sale for the expanded 24 team competition that will see 52 matches played.
FIFA’s chief commercial officer, Philippe Le Floc’h, said: “The eighth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup will see the greatest female footballers from around the globe travel to France this summer. Ticket sales figures show that people are excited about the competition and we are looking forward to seeing the stadiums across France packed with passionate fans.”
