Juve face expulsion from Serie A unless Agnelli pulls club out of ESL, says FIGC

May 11 – Juventus, one of the main architects of the European Super League, face being kicked out of Serie A if they do not withdraw from the project, Italian FA (FIGC) president Gabriele Gravina has warned.

AC Milan and Inter Milan, the other Italian sides involved, have backed out of the breakaway competition along with the six English teams, leaving Juventus as the country’s sole club persisting with the plans.

“The rules are clear. If Juventus is still part of the Super League when it enters next season, it can’t participate in Serie A,” Gravina was quoted as saying.

“At the moment of registering for the next Serie A season, they will be out if they have not pulled out from the Super League. I would be sorry for the fans but rules are rules and they apply to everyone.”

At the end of April, the FIGC adopted a rule which would exclude clubs who take part in competitions not sanctioned by governing bodies UEFA or FIFA.

However on Saturday Juve, alongside Barcelona and Real Madrid, defended the aborted competition and said they had received “unacceptable” threats from UEFA and FIFA.

Speaking to state broadcaster Rai on Monday, Gravina also said that he would be happy to act as a mediator between Juve, who have just relinquished the Serie A title to Inter Milan after nine straight successes, and UEFA.

“This showdown between the clubs and UEFA is not good for Italian football nor for Juventus,” he said.
