England join World Cup rivals at Soccerex

November 16 – England 2018 will promote their bid to host the World Cup at the Soccerex Global Convention in South Africa later this month to bring the total of rival bidders taking a presence in Johannesburg to six, over half of those competing to stage the event.

The England team will fly to the South African capital to set out their campaign before Sepp Blatter, Jack Warner, Franz Beckenbauer, Ricardo Terra Teixeira and Rafael Salguero, all of whom are part of the FIFA ruling Executive Committee which will choose where the 2018 and 2022 tournaments are awarded.

England join Russia, Japan, Australia, Holland and Belgium and Qatar at Soccerex, the industry convention regarded as the global leader in the business of football and which will take place between November 28 and December 2.

England plan to use the event to brief the leading movers-and-shakers in world football about the recent changes to the Board, which has been streamlined, a move that under-fire bid chairman Lord Triesman hopes will help them regain the initiative following a series of setbacks, including public criticism from Warner.
