December 29 – Ticket sales for the 2010 African Nations Cup are running late due to logistical problems, an official said today, less than two weeks before the tournament starts in Angola.
The tickets for the matches held in host cities Luanda, Lubango, Benguela and Cabinda were supposed to be on sale from December 22 at BPC and BAI banks but confusion reigned when football supporters could not purchase tickets.
“The decision of selling the tickets in the banks was a late decision,” said Luis Nobre, an administrator at Sinfic, a company responsible for the printing and selling of tickets.
“We had to wait for the draw to start to print the tickets, and then we had to take security measures, and to adopt a system to prevent the tickets from illegal reproduction.”
Nobre said tickets for the January 10-30 tournament finally went on sale today.
The first match is due to take place in Luanda between the hosts Angola and Mali.
The cheapest ticket will cost 250 kwanzas (£1.50) for the general stands in the stadiums.
The maximum price for the general stands is 1,040 kwanzas (£7), while for the executive boxes, the charges will start at 35,000 kwanzas (£220).
About 450,000 tickets will be sold which corresponds to 50 per cent of the total for tournament matches.
During the competition, the remaining tickets will also be sold at the stadiums.
