January 15 – Russia’s bid to host the 2018 or 2022 World Cup today announced it had signed up its second sponsor of the week when law firm Yust were unveiled.
The company has signed an agreement with the Russian Bid Committee which provides for substantial value-in-kind support in the area of legal advice, officials said today.
Alexey Sorokin, the chief executive of the bid and the Russian Football Union (RFU), said: “The compilation of the comprehensive bid documents as well as the coordination of our work with a large number of private and governmental stakeholders require a great deal of legal expertise.
“With Yust, the Bid Committee can count on highly specialised knowledge in legal matters.
“We are very pleased that this firm, with whom RFU has been working for many years, joins us in our efforts.”
The firm offers business-related services to Russian and foreign companies in a large number of areas such as corporate law, banking and financial law, contract law, tax law, litigation, intellectual property and sports law.
“The firm has a significant number of private individual and corporate clients and also provides legal services to various branches of the federal and regional Governments within the Russian Federation.”
Igor Kondrashov, the partner of Yust, said: ”A bid for an event such as the football World Cup requires a lot of work that interfaces between private companies, state companies and authorities.
“Yust is uniquely positioned to provide legal advice in these areas and we are pleased to work with the Bid Committee towards the goal of obtaining the right to host this prestigious tournament.”
On Monday, Russia announced BDO, part of the world’s fifth-large global network of independent auditors and a company which worked on Sochi’s successful campaign to host the 2014 Winter Olympics, as a supporter of their bid.
