February 4 – Castrol, who already back the World Cup and sponsor Cristiano Ronaldo (pictured), is set to extend its football portfolio by backing the 2012 European Championships in Poland and the Ukraine.
The automotive lubricants brand, which also sponsored the European Championships in 2008, will continue to activate its sponsorship through its Castrol Index game analytics tool.
Castrol uses a “playercam” technology to draw up detailed analysis of the performance of each player throughout the tournament.
The company also plans to launch on Sunday “Castrol Predictor”, a tool that measures team and player performance, to predict which countries will qualify for the final tournament, to coincide with the qualifying draw for Euro 2012 in Warsaw.
Mike Johnson, senior vice-president for lubricants at Castrol, said: “European football is among the strongest in the world, with an appeal that reaches far beyond the continent, so we’re delighted to be able to continue our long-term commitment to football with this new association.”
In April 2009, Castrol signed former Manchester United star Ronaldo as its latest brand ambassador, joining Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger.
