March 18 – The Football Association have appointed Julian Eccles (pictured) as Group Director of Marketing and Communications, it was confirmed today.
Eccles was director of communications and corporate affairs at BSkyB from 2000-2005 and is currently communications director at the media and telecoms regulator Ofcom.
The new role has been created following an organisational review at the FA, which will see current communications director Adrian Bevington becoming managing director of Club England after this summer’s World Cup.
Eccles also previously worked as a special adviser to former Culture Secretary Chris Smith at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
He also had a four year stint at Hill & Knowlton in the mid-1990s, where he was an associate director.
“I am delighted we have been able to recruit someone of Julian’s calibre and breadth of experience,” said FA chief executive Ian Watmore.
“He will make a big impact for the FA as we face the challenges ahead.”
