April 22 – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced tonight that FIFA President Sepp Blatter (pictured) will mediate a dispute over Togo’s ban from the next two editions of the African Cup of Nations.
The CAS said Blatter will meet with Togo and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on May 7.
CAF suspended Togo in January after the national team withdrew from the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola following an attack by gunmen on its team bus in which two officials died.
CAF said the ban was imposed because of political interference in Togo’s national federation.
The Togolese Football Association has appealed the ban to the CAS, who are based in Lausanne.
The court said late tonight that both sides agreed to the mediation process.
