May 24 – Ukraine’s Government have announced a series of tax-breaks for the 2012 European Championships, including on tickets.
The Cabinet of Ministers has offered to exempt from taxes and duties goods imported to organise and hold Euro 2012.
A new draft law is now set to be put before the country’s Parliament.
The draft document said: ”For the period of validity of this law, the participants of the championship and entitled persons will be allowed to import goods necessary for preparing for and holding the championship, and other championship-related activities without taxation and customs in the volumes defined by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.”
The hope is that the new law will help make it easier for construction companies to get the project back on track.
Ukraine is currently living under the threat of having its right to co-host the tournament stripped from it because of the slow pace of building the stadiums and related infrastructure.
Michel Platini, the President of UEFA, warned earlier this month that Germany or Hungary could be invited to host Ukraine’s share of matches if they failed to meet targets for building stadiums.
