May 30 - Milton Keynes, which is bidding to be one of the host venues for the 2018 World Cup if England are awarded the tournament , tonight hosted its first-ever full international fixture but only 100 people turned up to see it.
Stadium:MK, the home of League One club Milton Keynes Dons, was chosen as a late substitute for the World Cup warm-up match between Nigeria and Colombia after West Ham United’s Upton Park suddenly became unavailable.
But, because it was arranged at such short notice, there was no time to arrange any staff so that the people could watch the match and only officials and a handful of journalists were allowed into the ground to see the 1-1 draw.
Carlos Valdes put the Colombians ahead after 13 minutes only for Monaco midfielder Lukman Haruna to equalise for Nigeria 20 minutes from the end.
Stadium MK, which was the shock selection in the 12 grounds selected by England for its World Cup bid, will have its first opportunity to publicly showcase its international credentials when it hosts a friendly between Ghana and Latvia on Saturday (June 5).
