May 31 – Netherlands and Belgium’s joint bid to host the 2018 World Cup has been backed by Abedi Ayew Pele (pictured), one of Africa’s greatest ever footballers.
Abedi Pele claimed that he is behind the Netherlands-Belgium because of his close friendship with Ruud Gullit, of the President of the bid.
The 45-year-old Ghanaian, named Africa’s Player of the Year on three occasions, was a leading figure in South Africa’s successful bid to host the 2010 World Cup.
Abedi Pele said: ”I see Ruud Gullit as a brother.
“If he needs my advice, I am ready.
“I should not say out loud, but I will do my best to help.”
