July 12 – Ukraine is to launch a major advertising campaign later this year to promote its hosting of Euro 2012, the country’s Deputy Prime Minister Borys Kolesnikov has announced.
Ukrainian cities Kiev, Lviv, Kharkiv and Donetsk are due to host 15 matches between during the tournament which it is co-hosting with Poland, including the final in Kiev.
But the build-up has been overshadowed by serious concerns over construction work and whether the country will be ready in time, leading to UEFA President Michel Platini to at one point threaten to take the tournament away from Ukraine.
But it is a sign of growing confidence that Ukraine will be ready that they are commissioning a series of television adverts, including ones to be broadcast on CNN and Euronews.
Kolesnikov said: ”I think that in September you will see promotional videos for each of the cities that will host UEFA Euro 2012 on all channels.”
