February 1 – Amos Adamu claims that he is confident of being cleared when he appears before the FIFA Appeals Committee in Zurich tomorrow over corruption claims.
The Nigerian is appealing against his three-year ban he was given last November following allegations of bribery after an investigation by the Sunday Times into bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Tahiti’s Reynald Temarii, who was given a one-year ban after being implicated in the same affair, is also appealing.
“I don’t want to say too much about the appeal but I know I’ll get a fair hearing,” Adamu said.
“It is important that I clear my name in this matter and I believe that will be done at the meeting.”
Nigerian Sports Minister, Taoheed Adedoja, said last week that he felt “very uncomfortable that the allegations were overblown” after he watched the video in which Adamu allegedly demanded for a payment to be transferred to an account for him to vote for the United States to host the 2022 World Cup.
