April 12 – Grzegorz Lato (pictured), President of the Polish Football Association, is to set to earn a bonus of €1 million (£891,000/$1.4 million) if he is still in his post after the 2012 European Championships.
Lato, who scored 45 goals for Poland in 100 appearances during an international career which lasted between 1971 and 1984, has been in his post since 2008 and is keen to be re-elected to the role, in which he earns €13,000 (£11,000/$19,000) a month.
But a poor performance from Poland at the competition, being jointly hosted by Poland and the Ukraine, could lead to his position coming under threat.
No serious contenders have emerged to rival Lato currently, though Zbigniew Boniek, a former international teammate of Lato’s who formerly played for Juventus and briefly managed Poland in 2002, would be a possible candidate.
But he is likely to be put off by memories of his previous campaign, when he ran against Lato in the last Presidential election and lost.
