April 19 – Adidas has renewed its partnership with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich until 2020, in a deal which sees the company continue to supply team kits to the German outfit.
Adidas own 9.4 per cent of Bayern Munich AG, the company which controls the club’s commercial soccer department, and they confirmed in a statement that the club’s new home shirts would go on sale in the week beginning May 13.
Adidas and Bayern Munich have a partnership which dates back 50 years, and the German giant’s chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said: “We’re delighted that the decades-long partnership between FC Bayern and adidas, which has always been characterised by mutual trust and respect, will continue for a further period of at least eight years.”
And the Adidas Group chairman Herbert Hainer added: “I’m delighted and proud.
“[A partnership of this length is] unique in football.
“It is founded on trust and mutual support, I’m delighted we’re adding another chapter to this 50-year success story.”
Rummenigge continued by commenting that “these have been 50 years of trust and it has grown into a partnership between friends.”
“It’s more than just a business relationship there is a powerful bond, and friendships have been formed too,” said agreed Uli Hoeness, who scored 86 goals in 239 matches for Bayern and was part of the team that won the European Cup three times before serving as the club’s general manager and President.
“You can always talk to adidas and Herbert Hainer.”
