April 20 – The African Football Confederation (CAF) has fined Egyptian outfit Zamalek following a pitch invasion after a game in the African Champions League last month.
Against Tunisian side Club Africain, Zamalek fans invaded the pitch following a disallowed goal.
With Zamalek winning the game in Cairo 2-1 having lost the first match 4-2 in Tunisia, they could have progressed on away goals if the strike had stood.
The fans then tried to attack opposing players and officials, and CAF found Zamalek guilty of violating four articles of its disciplinary code, therefore giving them a $80,000 fine and ordering the club to play their next four games behind closed doors, two of which are suspended.
Zamalek were not alone in being handed censure, with Senegal facing a $5,000 fine for a pitch invasion during their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Cameroon.
