April 22 – Chelsea have appointed sports marketing agency SportFive to market 19 of its first team squad players, including John Terry and Didier Drogba.

Chelsea own the image rights of the players in question and say that they are working with the agency to “build on the club and our players’ global image and business reputation.”

“We want to work with market leaders like Sportfive and they certainly have the knowledge and experience needed,” said Chelsea chief executive officer Ron Gourlay.

Sportfive International chief executive officer Vincent Tong Cuong added: “Sportfive is extremely positive about this opportunity to work with one of the world’s most successful and prestigious football clubs.

“We are pleased to further emphasise our presence at the top of the football market and extend our existing partnership with Chelsea to what we hope will develop into a long-standing relationship.”

SportFive has worked with Chelsea before, co-ordinating a pre-season European tour in 2010.

The company works with a number of other sports organisations, including 250 other clubs and 30 national associations.

Among its work is the marketing of African football competitions such as the African Nations’ Cup and Champions League.

And SportFive also holds the sale of broadcast and exhibition rights in most of Europe to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympic Games, being held in Rio de Janeiro.
