May 6 – Worawi Makudi, the chief of the Thai Football Association, is confident that he will be re-elected to the post next week despite the country’s expulsion from the 2012 Olympic football qualifiers.
Makudi, a member of FIFA’s Executive Committee, is facing a challenge from former Thai Port FC chairman Pichate Munkong.
“I am confident about being re-elected,” said Makudi.
“I am not worried by Mr Pichate.
“I have done a lot for Thai football and helped it move forward.
“I am sure I will get enough votes for another term.”
The vote, which was originally scheduled to take place today, has been postponed iuntil later this month because Makudi is out of the country on FIFA business.
Makudi has been in charge of Thai football for the last four years, but his bid will not be helped by the expulsion of the national side from qualification for the 2012 Olympic Games.
An ineligible player was fielded in the first round qualifier with Palestine, who the Asian Football Confederation confirmed would take Thailand’s place in the second round, where they will play Bahrain, despite protestations from Thailand.
