May 16 – Djoko Driyono, the acting secretary general of the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) has confirmed that their congress was being held to avoid further censure from FIFA.

The PSSI are scheduled to hold elections this month for a new chairman after the previous holder of the post, Nurdin Halid, was banned by world football’s governing body from standing after allegations of corruption were levelled at him.

And Indonesian club side Sriwijaya made a demand of 3.5 billion rupiah (£250,000) in insurance compensation in case they were banned from participating in the Asian Champions League in the event of Indonesian clubs being banned from international football.

Driyono said: “There is no need for insurances because even without them we have the same spirit.

“The congress is being held to keep our interest alive in competing in the AFC, AFF under-23, Futsal and Pre-World Cup competitions.”

Indonesia look likely to avoid censure after the normalisation committee set up by FIFA to oversee the country’s football affairs until the election ensured that candidates FIFA ruled as ineligible were prevented from standing for the vacant post.
