July 8 – Part of the roof of the stadium of FC Twente Enschede has collapsed, killing two and injuring at least a dozen.
The Grolsch Veste ground is under renovation to turn it into a 32,000-seater stadium, and it is believed two beams collapsed.
“Part of the roof has collapsed, there are people under the rubble but we don’t know how many,” a Dutch police spokesman said.
Emergency services are at the scene, with a trauma helicopter on hand to help treat the casualties.
The situation is so severe that the local station and a workplace nearby have been closed off.
