September 15 – Mohamed Bin Hammam’s appeal against his life ban for allegedly taking bribes was, as expected, rejected today by FIFA’s Appeals Committee.

FIFA’s Ethics Committee ruled on July 23 that the former head of Asian football conspired to bribe Caribbean voters to back his later abandoned bid to take over from Sepp Blatter as FIFA President.

Bin Hammam insists he is innocent but his attempt to have the ruling overturned was turned down by the Appeals Committee, which was chaired by Francisco Acosta of Ecuador.

The 62-year-old Qatari, for years one of the most powerful men in world football, now seems certain to take his claim for justice to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
