September 21 – Eugenie Buckley will be leaving her post as the chief executive of Australian side Brisbane Roar to pursue other opportunities, it has been announced.
Buckley played a pivotal role at the club, helping to double the number of season ticket holders as well as beating various sponsorship targets during her time with Roar.
The announcement of her departure was made by Football Federation Australia (FFA), who currently own the club whilst it looks for a new owner.
Last year Brisbane Roar won the A-League, going unbeaten throughout the season, qualifying for this season’s Asian Champions League.
Former Brisbane Lions chief executive Michael Bowers will take up the post to continue her work, and Buckley said: “Over the past six months, my focus has been on making Brisbane Roar FC as ‘saleable’ as possible given this was FFA’s number one imperative.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the club and believe Brisbane Roar is now in a fantastic position to establish itself as one of the premier sporting clubs in Queensland.
The head of Hyundai A-League Lyall Gorman praised Buckley’s work at the club.
“The work Eugenie has done in this space has been excellent and she has put the Brisbane Roar Football Club on very firm footing as they head towards defending their Hyundai A-League 2011 Championship,” he said.
“While losing a great performer like Eugenie Buckley is a disappointment we thank her for her tireless efforts in reshaping the Club.
“There will always be place for Eugenie in the football family and we wish her well for all her future endeavours.”
