October 6 – Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour remains top of football’s rich list compiled by the magazine FourFourTwo, which estimated his worth at £20 billion ($31 billion/€23 billion).
Sheikh Mansour, a member of Abu Dhabi’s ruling Al Nahyan family, has invested heavily in City since the 2008 takeover of the club and has been rewarded by seeing the team qualify for this season’s Champions League and win the 2011 FA Cup.
They have also made a positive start to the current season, which has put them on course to challenge Manchester United for the domestic title.
Arsenal shareholder Alisher Usmanov has moved into second place, reported to be worth £12.4 billion ($19.1 billion/€14.5 billion), with Indian steel magnate Mittal – the man behind the Queens Park Rangers revolution – slipping to third with a fortune of £11.8 billion ($18.2 billion/€13.8 billion).
Chelsea’s Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich (pictured) sits fourth on the list, followed by the Liebherr family in charge of Championship side Southampton.
