November 5 – Under-fire FIFA Executive Worawi Makudi has once again denied any wrongdoing as the net closes in around him for allegedly using development funds for his own use.
This week FIFA stepped up its investigation into Makudi, head of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT), demanding more legal documents to answer allegations that he spent $860,000 of FIFA’s Goal project money building facilities on land he already owns.
FIFA has given him an ultimatum of December 1 to prove that he had actually donated the land in question to his Association.
Makudi told reporters in Bangkok that FIFA had transferred the sum directly to the constructor of the land and not to him or his federation.
Asked about adjacent land in Bangkok’s Nong Chok district, he said he had already relinquished his right to it.
“I am ready to fight in court,” said Makudi, a member of FIFA’s Executive Committee for 14 years and a close ally of Mohamed Bin Hammam, the former President of Asian football who is appealing a life ban for bribery.
“I know who is behind the move.”
