December 1 – England’s decision to base themselves in Kraków during the 2012 European Championships, co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, was “a superb choice”, according to the managing director of PROSKE | sports, Lindsay Gomer.
Fabio Capello, the England coach, visited the city to inspect its facilities before the Football Association confirmed that they would be based in the city during the tournament.
Kraków is in the south of Poland, and England will stay in the city centre, about 150 miles from the nearest match venue for Euro 2012.
“Kraków is a superb choice for England and will be a perfect location for England fans hoping to engage with their heroes before and during the tournament,” said Gomer.
Gomer’s company, PROSKE | sports, is working with TOP sponsor Coca-Cola at the European Championships next summer, supporting its international and local hospitality and ticketing management programme.
“Hotel Stary, where England will stay, is a great venue which will provide all the luxuries players expect, but there is also a wide range of cultural attractions that players and fans alike may wish to see,” Gomer continued.
“Kraków has easy transport connections as well with low cost airlines flying to the local airport and reliable train services with many connections, so it will be straightforward to travel to other parts of Poland and Ukraine for England’s matches.
“Not only has the bustling city centre got so much to see and do, but there are some fantastic bars and restaurants.”
England were heavily criticised for staying in Rustenberg during the 2010 World Cup, a more isolated location where it was said players grew bored easily.
“It’s a stark contrast to England’s World Cup in South Africa, where the team stayed in Rustenberg, which was fairly isolated,” Gomer added.
