January 16 – The steering group set up to put Caribbean football back on the map after the worst year for public relations in its history has made several fresh appointments.
The so-called Normalisation Committee of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) has formed three new working groups to “oversee financial, legal and football matters” until the CFU Congress in May.
Luis Hernández, President of the Cuban Football Association, will serve as the chairman of the CFU Football Committee focusing on the footballing aspect of the organisation to ensure the smooth operation of tournaments.
The Football Committee will also be responsible for drafting a development plan for the period 2012-2015 and conducting a review of the CFU competitions format.
Larry Mussenden, President of the Bermuda Football Association, will serve as the chairman of the CFU Legal Committee and Cheney Joseph, President of the Grenada Football Association, chairman of the CFU Finance Committee providing much needed clarity with regard to the revenues and obligations.
The appointments come less than a week after Damien Hughes was made acting general secretary of the CFU to help restore the credibility of the entire region.
Hughes has been the general secretary of the Anguilla Football Association for the last 10 years and fills the position left vacant when Angenie Kanhai resigned last month.
