January 17 – Guests from the world of politics, sport and journalism attended the launch of The Spirit of The Game: How Sport Made the Modern World, the latest book written by Mihir Bose, insidethegames and insideworldfootball columnist.
Duncan Goodhew, Richard Caborn, Kate Hoey and Steve Borthwick were among the familiar faces that joined Bose at a packed launch party in central London.
The book, which runs to over 600 pages, attempts to chronicle the entire history of modern sport, the changing role of fair play and how commercial interests have played such a pivotal role in recent years.
It recounts how sport lost its spirit and how it has emerged to become the most powerful political tool in the world.
Priced at £18.99 ($29.24/€22.87) and published by Constable, the hardback has already been favourably reviewed by the Financial Times which described the research as “wide and deep” and Bose’s prose “bright and clear”.
