January 18 – FIFA President Sepp Blatter (pictured) has reaffirmed that he will definitely step down for good when his fourth and final spell in charge expires in three years’ time.
Blatter has been the object of considerable speculation over whether he will carry on or do the opposite and quit early but in a magazine interview he said neither would be the case.
“At some point, you have to stop,” Blatter told France Football.
“I’m trying to reach 2015.
“I’m coming towards the end of my presidency but I want to install the next governance.”
UEFA President Michel Platini is widely regarded as Blatter’s natural successor and the present incumbent endorsed the Frenchman’s credentials.
“Michel Platini is ready, if he wants,” said Blatter.
“He says ‘I don’t know yet…’ but deep inside, he wants it.
“Of course he will be a good President.
“He will not be the same President that I am, because everyone is different but he will be a good President.”
