May 9 – Football fans are being given the chance to have their say on the name and colours of the new West Sydney team in the Australian A-League.
Approximately A$4 million (£2.4 million / €3.2 million / $4.1 million) is being put towards the creation of the new team.
A public vote has been launched with the names Athletic, Wanderers, Strikers, Wolves and Rangers among the leading contenders thus far.
Red, black and white are the leading colours in the vote, which is taking place at www.footballaustralia.com.au/vote.
The new West Sydney team has been set up to ensure the A-League has 10 teams for the coming season, after Gold Coast United owner Clive Palmer was stripped of his licence to field them in the division this season following a dispute with the Australian Football Federation (FFA).
So far 4,000 fans have already expressed their views on the make up of the new team, with the survey indicating that those questioned would like the name of the team to make reference to their geographical location in the west of Sydney.
The new team will be the second from Sydney to compete in this season’s A-League when the competition gets underway later this year.
