June 11 – UEFA have sanctioned two more countries for falling foul of the rules at Euro 2012 – this time nothing to do with racism.

Germany have been charged by Europe’s governing body after its fans hurled football-shaped paper balls at Portugal players during their group game on Saturday (June 9).

Portugal themselves have been charged for their players being late out for the second half for the game in Lviv.

“The German Football Association (DFB) is charged with the throwing of missiles by its supporters, while the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) faces proceedings for a delayed kickoff to the second half,” UEFA said in a statement.

Portugal players were pelted with dozens of white paper balls during the first half of Germany’s 1-0 victory.

The public address system warned Germany’s fans at half-time that their team would be punished if they continued the barrage.

UEFA said its disciplinary panel would deal with the cases on Thursday (June 14), 24 hours after a verdict is expected into an improper conduct charge against Russian fans.
