July 20 – Russian Premier League outfit CSKA Moscow have agreed a R288 million (£5.7million/$9million/€7.3million) sponsorship deal with Aeroflot.
The agreement was signed by CSKA Moscow President Evgeny Giner and Aeroflot general director Vitaly Savyelyev.
The Russian national airline’s deal with CSKA also sees the team receive an Airbus A320.
That was an upgrade on the previous deal between the two, which saw CSKA use one of Aeroflot’s older Tupolev planes.
One man pleased with the improvements was Igor Akinfeev (pictured above), captain of The Army Men and also the national team goalkeeper.
“Great conditions have been created for us: quality planes, beautiful stewardesses and great food,” he said.
“It’s all top-notch.”
Giner added: “We all know what this huge company is all about.
“It’s a company that is working more and more effectively, and we will try not to spoil its image and become Russian champions this year.”
CSKA (pictured above in white) finished third in the Russian league last season, and have been left behind by the Gazprom bankrolled Zenit St Petersburg since their last title win in 2006.
CSKA reached the last 16 of last season’s Champions League.
