August 17 – Macedonian forward Adis Jahović has been given a 10-match ban by the Swiss Football League after telling a referee “if I see you after, I will kill you”.
The FC Wil player made the threat just before half time, after being sent off, against FC Biel in the Swiss second division.
He was given a red card after kicking an opponent, and although the incident took place almost two weeks ago, the Swiss league yesterday announced the punishment for “threatening and unsporting conduct”.
The league said in a statement: “The player had threatened him [the referee] during the half time break on the fly with the following words: ‘If I see you after I kill you.’
“In the event of multiple offences, the penalty is calculated according to the most serious offence – in this case the threats made to the referee – in accordance with due increase in the specific circumstances of each case.”
Jahović (pictured above, left) has already served one match of the suspension, the Swiss league ruled, and the player has five days to appeal the decision.
The 26-year-old has attracted the attention of bigger teams, not least Grasshoppers Zurich, after a string of impressive performances last year for FC Wil, when he scored 16 goals.
Jahović joined FC Wil at the start of last season after spending most of his career to date in Bosnia.
