September 13 – The Itaquera in São Paulo which will host the opening game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, will boast the world’s largest LED stadium panel.
Osram, a subsidiary of Siemens, is behind the panel and is installing the energy efficient lighting technology in the arena.
The external façade of the stadium is to measure 170 metres in length by 20m high, and will be capable of displaying images, scores and video.
“In São Paulo, Osram is once again proving its expertise when it comes to lighting for sports venues,” Osram chief executive Klaus-Günther Vennemann said.
“We have not let ourselves be intimidated by FIFA’s strict requirements.
“On the contrary, our high-tech lighting solutions exceed the specifications by far.”
The stadium (pictured top), which will host six games at the World Cup, will become the home ground of Copa Libertadores champions Corinthians after Brazil 2014, and was visited by a delegation including members of FIFA and the World Cup Organising Committee earlier this week.
The ground was one of the last on which work was began last year, with work in and around the stadium scheduled for completion by March 2014.
