19 – Russian second tier outfit FC Tom Tomsk may be facing a boycott of a cup game with CSKA Moscow due to a dispute over unpaid wages.
Tomsk players are owed money dating back to the middle of June, midfielder Renat Sabitov told RIA Novosti.
As a result, they may boycott the big game with CSKA Moscow on September 26, which should serve as a lucrative money-spinner for the cash strapped team.
“It is true, there are salary delays for three months and bonuses for 10 league games and one cup game against Sibir,” Sabitov said.
“We may boycott the game against CSKA.”
Tomsk are currently top of the second division after being relegated from the Russian Premier League at the end of last season.
The team teetered on the edge of bankruptcy at the start of the year, and were only saved by the intervention of then Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Putin, since elected as Russian President, prompted oil giants Rosneft and Gazprom to step in to fund the team, the second time Tomsk were saved from bankruptcy in the space of three years.
