October 5 – Horace Reid is leaving his post as general secretary of the Jamaican Football Federation (JFF) to join the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) as its new director of competitions.
Reid (pictured top), who has been involved with Jamaican football for 18 years and has twice held his current post, also worked as executive director of the marketing division at the Caribbean Football Union (CFU), many of whose members were sanctioned as a result of last year’s cash-for-votes scandal in Trinidad and Tobago.
Reid was not one them and, according to Caribbean reports, is held in high esteem for his organisational and people skills, just what CONCACAF needs as it strives to regain credibility after a corruption-painted 18 months.
“The integrity as well as the quality of play are a priority to CONCACAF and part of our goal is to see these traits reach the highest attainable level,” said CONCACAF General Secretary Enrique Sanz.
Reid, who served as chairman of CONCACAF Administration Committee for 10 years and takes up his new post on November 1, is the latest official to be brought into the fold under CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb.
“In a desire to be an integral part of a progressive, dynamic and forward thinking confederation, I trust my skills and expertise in competitions management, as well as my vast experience in football administration, will contribute to the development of the sport in the CONCACAF region,” said Reid.
“It’s a privilege that certainly comes with a great deal of responsibility.”
