October 16 – Fabrice Muamba, the footballer who miraculously recovered from a mid-match cardiac arrest, is contemplating a career in football politics and is set to meet FIFA President Sepp Blatter at the end of this month.
The Congo-born former England under-21 international midfielder was forced to retire in August, four months after collapsing at Tottenham Hotspur’s White Hart Lane Stadium while playing for Bolton Wanderers in front of a global television audience.
The FA Cup match was immediately postponed and against all odds, Muamba, whose heart stopped for 78 minutes, made an astonishing recovery.
Now he may enter football politics.
“I like this kind of side of it, making decisions…I have a meeting with Sepp Blatter,” Muamba was quoted as saying.
The meeting is due to take place in Zurich on October 30 when he is expected to be accompanied by Bolton chairman Phil Gartside and the club doctor.
Muamba, 24, is recovering well but still suffers from memory loss.
“As far as I’m aware the doctor told me it would take me about a year for my memory to get back to normality, how it was before,” Muamba said.
“So I have a slight problem with my memory.
“But I try not to think about it too much.”
