October 29 – The conviction and jail sentence of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi for tax fraud has heaped further pressure on AC Milan, which the 76-year-old media mogul has owned for 26 years.

Although lambasted in his homeland, in his time as AC Milan owner, the club have enjoyed some of the best seasons in their history.

Under Berlusconi, the Rossoneri have won eight Serie A titles and five Champions League/European Cup trophies but have currently got off to their worst start since he took over and now have to carry on without their high-profile figurehead.

Italian media reports question how long coach Massimiliano Allegri can stay in the job after the worst start since 1941 as well as where Milan will get their financial backing from just at the time when they need leadership and direction.

“I put myself on the line every day,” Allegri said.

“I’m the first one that’s responsible for the whole team.

“The President is not going through a good period and has always been kind to us, always splendid, always close to us.”
