October 31 – Jamaican officials are heading to England to try to sign up as many players as possible in an attempt to qualify for the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.

A Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) delegation, led by its President Horace Burrell, is trying to bolster the Reggae Boyz squad and will spend 12 days on a scouting mission.

Also in the party is head coach Theodore Whitmore (pictured top).

The group plan to watch five matches – including Swansea-Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers-Reading – and meet nine new players with Jamaican roots, according to reports in the country.

The trip is part of the JFF’s bid, as described by Burrell, to find the “best 11” players to take the field as Jamaica aim to qualify for their second World Cup finals.

“I can tell you that for the final phase we will be pulling out all the stops,” he was quoted as saying.

“One of the things we’ll be doing when we go to the United Kingdom is sit with the clubs and players and have a fulsome discussion on all the issues and unite the family, because the best 11 is going to be on that field — no two ways about that.”
