November 29 – The English Premier League has maintained its decision-making status on the top table of the European Club Association (ECA) with Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis elected to the organisation’s executive board.
Gazidis (pictured top) succeeds his Manchester United counterpart David Gill both in that role and as the ECA’s representative on UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council.
Protocol led to Gill deciding to step aside since he wants to become a member of UEFA’s Executive Committee at elections next year.
Gazidis, who has been largely responsible for Arsenal being held up as the perfect model to comply with UEFA Financial Fair Play rules, has already been playing a prominent role in the ECA since its creation in 2008.
ECA chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, whose organisation represents over 200 clubs, said: “His experience and distinct football knowledge will add a lot of value to ECA and European club football as a whole.”
Gazidis said he was looking forward “to representing the top European clubs in many important debates as we move ahead”.
“I am delighted to be joining these important groups which are hugely influential in the future direction of the game in Europe,” he added.
