December 28 – Ajax will be holding six training camps for Russian boys aged 9-16 in Istra 50km west of Moscow this summer.

Derk Sauer, Ajax aide-de-camp in Russia and CIS is quoted as saying, “For Ajax, winning isn’t the most important, the style of football is most important – an attractive, beautiful game.”

Ajax are renowned for their highly successful youth academy in Holland. In 1999 they took a step further and established a club in South Africa – Ajax Cape Town – to extend their talent development network.

The club is hoping to progress to establishing a permanent Ajax academy in Russia in the future.

The new venture already has a website at www.ajaxcamps.ru which promises the participants training on Istra’s grass pitches, an Ajax kit, as well as tennis, table-tennis and PlayStation tournaments.
