January 2 – The Ghana FA is facing a possible cash crisis in the days before the start of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Without the funding the Black Stars will have to be withdrawn from the warm-up games, training camp and the tournament itself later this month.
The initial budget of $8m which was presented to the Sports Ministry has been cut after a media storm.
There had been controversy over win bonuses of up to $25,000 if the Black Stars win the tournament, $15,000 on laundry services and a planned media spend of $70,000 as well as the budgeted cost of $1.06 million for the Abu Dhabi training camp.
A new budget received presidential approval three weeks ago but the Finance Ministry is yet to respond.
The delay is a problem as President John Mahama is reported to be intending to dissolve the current cabinet in a few days time.
The national team is scheduled to travel to the UAE on Friday to play pre-tournament warm-up games against Egypt and Tunisia.
The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on January 19 in South Africa.
