On a transfer deadline day and with his usual flair for a dramatic headline grabbing entrance, David Beckham was officially presented as a PSG player this afternoon after passing his medical.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, PSG’s president (and a director of Al Jazeera Sports), welcomed Beckham to the club, thanking him for becoming “part of our dream”.
Beckham has signed for five months and his salary will be going to a Paris children’s charity whilst his family will remain in London..
The midfield maestro said he chose PSG after receiving more offers from other clubs than ever before in his career. Although he had received offers from Premier League clubs, he was not interested in playing for any English club other than Manchester United and he was honoured to join PSG as they “were going to have a lot of success over the next 10, 15, 20 years.”
Asked what he would bring to the club, Beckham mentioned his experience in winning championships and that he was still fit at 37 years old.
He stated he has not lost pace as he never had it as key part of his game and he was lucky to have worked with Carlo Ancelotti and Leonardo at Milan.
PSG have spent more than £200m in the last 18 months and Beckham can look forward to adding a championship in a fourth country.
