January 31 – Europe’s big spending clubs are reporting winter flurries of activity as they rapidly manoeuvre in the player transfer market to close their deals as the window starts to close across the continent tonight  – from 19:00 CET in Germany to 24: 00 CET (23:00 GMT) in England and France.

In France, Paris St Germain have continued their buying spree with Lucas Moura joining from Sao Paulo for £34m.

Most clubs, however, have been selling high earning players, with the English Premier League’s Newcastle United buying many of them – including Moussa Sissoko, Massadio Haidara, Youn Gouffran, Mapo Yanga-Mbiwa and Mathieu Debuchy.

Loic Remy has moved from Marseilles to QPR who signed the France forward for a club record £8 million.

In Germany, Bayern have signed up Jan Kirchhoff from Mainz. Borussia Dortmund sold Ivan Perisic to Wolfburg for £6.8m.

In Milan, Inter sold Wesley Snijder to Galatasaray who also picked up Drogba in a disputed transaction from Shanghai Shenhua, whilst AC have bought Balotelli from Manchester City and picked up Anelka on loan from the Chinese club. Fiorentina signed Giuseppe Rossi from Villareal for £8.1m.

In Spain, Real Madrid signed Diego Lopez for £3m from Sevilla for the Champions League after Casillas was injured. Interest in signing Kaka has not come to fruition and Barcelona rebuffed Arsenal’s interest in David Villa.

In England, Daniel Sturridge moved from Chelsea to Liverpool, with immediate success, and Demba Ba joined Chelsea from Newcastle. Joe Cole moved from Liverpool back to West Ham. Manchester United, signed Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha, loaning him back for the remainder of the season.

Some clubs are still seeking to strengthen their squads and frenetic activity is expected today in the final hours.

Insideworldfootball will provide a full analysis of the transfer moves and trends tomorrow with tracking data provided by the Association of Football Statisticians and 11v11.com.
