February 19 – A further delay in a decision rubber-stamping West Ham’s move to the Olympic stadium used for London 2012 looks set to frustrate the club and its supporters.
The Premier League club were hoping to finally get the green light to become tenants today after a board meeting of the London Legacy Development Corporation on the future of the venue.
Reports say West Ham have made some concessions in order to reach a deal, including agreeing to increase the amount of rent they would pay, but apparently today’s hearing will only be an update on proceedings.
Even if the LLDC approves the bid, the move would still require the green light from the local council and London Mayor Boris Johnson.
The saga over the future of the stadium has dragged on ever since West Ham were first named preferred bidders in 2010. Despite all the euphoria during the Games, the bidding process for the state-of-the-art stadium has been anything but smooth as they centered on financial terms of West Ham’s lease.
