More Milan racism at Europa League tie vs Spurs

March 15 – UEFA seem likely to investigate yet another instance of racism following complaints by Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas that the club’s Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor suffered abuse during last night’s Europa League game at Inter Milan.

Monkey noises were clearly audible from home supporters on several occasions while two other visiting players, Kyle Naughton and Mousa Dembélé, appeared to be targeted during extra time.

“It was very, very easy to hear the chanting so I’m sure UEFA will act on it,” said Villas-Boas.

“It’s very difficult for Inter Milan because it’s happened before. It doesn’t mar the game but it’s something that should not have happened.”

Inter have already been fined a total of £55,900 by the Italian authorities this season for racist behaviour against Chievo and then in the derby against AC Milan.

Lazio were fined £32,500 for racist chants towards three Tottenham players during a Europa League group match last September. That was followed, after further offences, by a far heavier fine, then an order – despite fierce protests by Lazio – to play two European games behind closed doors as UEFA started to get tough.
