April 30 – One and a half million happy German football fans watched the first round of the Champions League semi-finals in Sky Sports Bars. The figure includes 1.02 million viewers who watched the victory of FC Bayern over Barcelona.

In addition to these figures, 420,000 fans watched last Tuesday’s game on Sky Go, with a total of nearly three million viewers watching Bayern destroy the Catalans on Sky’s exclusive broadcasts, either at home on TV, online or in the bars.

The 1.54 million viewers watching at home, measured by AGF, is a record for a single game broadcast.

The Dortmund game was simultaneously transmitted live on free TV, but restaurants and bars with Sky licenses still benefitted from 440,000 fans enjoying the 4-1 thrashing of Real Madrid.

Advising fans to reserve a place in their local pub for the second legs, Uwe Mueller, vice president of Sky Business Solutions, said: “The whole of Germany is in a Champions League fever. The live broadcasts in the Sky sports bars bring the fans an unforgettable football evening.”
