May 13 – The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has re-set the date for elections to September 29 and will allow all candidates to stand following intervention by FIFA.

Outgoing TFF president Leodegar Tenga said: “FIFA directed us to form ethics and appeals committees, amend the statutes, start the election process afresh and allow all candidates to run.”

There will be a meeting of the TFF on July 13 which will make any necessary amendments to the ruling body’s constitution.

Jamal Malinzi, who had been disqualified for lacking five years of leadership experience, and who will now be challenging the current TFF vice-president, Athuman Nyamlani, for the presidency said: “I thank FIFA for intervening to correct things that were going wrong.”

Michael Wambura, who had been disqualified for allegedly “lacking integrity” and for having taken a football matter to court on a previous occasion, and who will now contest the vice president’s post, told BBC Sport: “There was gross abuse of power and the election process was being dictated in favour of some people. FIFA has seen this and rectified the matters.”

Tanzania, have had organisational difficulties over recent months, with FIFA keeping a close watch as elections were repeatedly delayed and allegations of government interference were made. On the pitch, under Kim Poulsen, the national team has improved its FIFA Ranking to 116th from 145th in May 2012, and the TFF has plans in place to further improve Tanzanian football, including a new technical development plan.
