June 3 – Atletico Madrid director Clemente Villaverde and CEO of Numancia, Victor Manuel Martin, have been elected as the first and second vice presidents, respectively, of Spain’s Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) for two year terms.
Villaverde became the first vice president after winning the vote ahead of Real Valladolid President Carlos Suarez. Victor Manuel Martin’s appointment went unchallenged as he was the only candidate presented to occupy the second vice presidency.
Villaverde replaces Levante president Francisco Javier Catalan whose term at the LFP ended last April, while Manuel Martin replaces Javier Tebas stepped up to the presidency of the LFP, also in April.
The new vice presidents will hold their posts until the end of the 2014/2015 season when a re-election will take place unless the board of directors at the LFP decide against a vote and want both Villaverde and Martin to continue.
The voting for the LFP vice presidencies was by postal ballot. Under LFP rules the clubs officials represent must play in the division that the officer is elected. If their team is relegated then the official has to stand down.
