July 10 – Moses Magogo who will be taking over as Ugandan FA (FUFA) president on August 31, and has launched his manifesto entitled ‘The Next Four Years’, outlining his vision for the future of Ugandan football.

Speaking at the manifesto’s launch, Magogo appealed for the Ugandan footall community to work together for the common good, saying: “Whoever wants to join the train to develop the game of football, you are welcome to the wagon. In football we are supposed to be one family. Therefore we will continue to put in place means, activities and programmes to foster co-operation, friendship and co-existence.”

Magogo is unopposed in the running for the top job in Ugandan football after the other candidates, Kampala Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko and Internal Security Organisation Deputy Director Taban Amin failed to satisfy the requirement to have served as an executive of a major football body for a minimum of seven years.

Magogo, a FIFA Football Administration & Management Instructor, has served on the FUFA executive for eight years and was on the competitions committee before becoming FUFA Vice President/Administration.

At the launch Magogo stressed the importance of training for stakeholders, schools of excellence, improvement of external relations and communications and that: “We need performance indicators for everybody in FUFA. If we cannot meet our targets we have no business in this game.”

In his manifesto Magogo highlights “the process of strengthening all the institutions ahead of individuals so that they are sustained in existence and growth even when certain individuals depart. Strong statutes, regulations, policies and their strict adherence and enforcement will allow growth of institutions.

“We will advocate for mass distribution, education, prevention of contravention and enforcement of statutes, regulations and policies at all levels in the game of football in Uganda.”

He stresses the importance of “co-operation, friendship and co-existence,” setting “performance indicators for the different bodies and individuals and a continuous performance appraisal” and the importance of good administration, recruitment and to improve on internal performance.

Whilst recognising his election marks the “end to the era of a reliable source of funds on the person of the President,” Magogo and his team will focus on accountability, value for money and marketing.

“In order to boost the income to the federation,” Magogo writes, “I will spearhead the commercialisation of properties. A deliberate strategy to nurture various products and rights from potential to desired state will be laid. The legal requirements to issue and obtain licenses will be expedited; more revenue channels and streams will be opened.”
